In a smaller community the size of Hoisington, occasionally it can be difficult getting people to run for every board. The USD 431 Board of Education has taken a step to ease the challenge by placing a question on the ballot to switch the voting structure.
USD 431 Superintendent Bill Lowry says the board is in favor of at-large voting.

The current seven school board members are divided into districts with only one person that lives in each district able to serve on the board. The change would remove that restriction with at-large voting, where essentially the entire board could consist of residents of a certain district.
The yes or no change will be on the ballot for the Tuesday, November 8 election for Hoisington USD 431 voters.
Last month, the Hoisington City Council decided to keep a ward-based voting structure rather than change to at-large voting.
