Project Lead The Way started out with an engineering curriculum designed by a teacher nearly 20 years ago to help teach the subject matter and get more students interested in engineering.
The non-profit organization provides learning experiences for students to gain the necessary skills for jobs that have not even been created yet.
USD 428 has implemented the curriculum with one class at the high school. Great Bend High School Assistant Principal Randy Wetzel says USD 428’s participation in Project Lead The Way is only the tip of iceberg as to what is possible with the program.

Because of the training required for teachers and expense, USD 428 is only allowed to add one PLTW class at a time. Through smart financial saving and Perkins federal grants, USD 428 has continued funding the initiative.
