The Great Bend City Council becomes almost giddy when there is a large amount of abatements presented on the agenda. One of their ongoing goals is to clean up the city by forcing owners to fix or clean up their dilapidated or in-violation properties.
The city council gets even more excited when Code Enforcement Officer Stuart Baker shares an unsafe and dangerous structure that he feels needs to be condemned.
Baker presented an unsafe structure at 623 Baker that has part of the roof collapsed, a dock falling apart, and multiple cracks that are starting to move.

The structure is owned by Professional Cargo Services out of Wichita.
The 623 Baker property was on the Barton County Tax Sale last year with numerous back taxes that needed to be paid. Stuart Baker was hoping the property would fall to the county because multiple people have shown interest in the property if the building was razed. Baker says the owner decided to redeem the property at the tax sale.

Great Bend set a public hearing for the unsafe and dangerous structure on June 6. The city has to set a hearing prior to demolishing the building.
