USD 428The Great Bend school district is handling their housekeeping items during the summer months including their personnel report.

Going into the 2016-2017 school year there will be 57 position changes. These changes reflect currently employed staff making moves within the district. One Federal Programs position was added and there are only four positions yet to be hired.

USD 428 Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum John Popp says only having four jobs to fill at this point in June is good but he is concerned about two positions.

USD 428 cut four positions for next year including two special education spots, and a high school computers and science position. Superintendent Brad Reed mentioned in the last two years the district has reduced 10 positions, saving the district money.

Popp also noted Great Bend’s summer school program is seeing around 334 students in attendance. Summer school is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day for students that finished kindergarten through 5th grade. The weekly field trips or activities have kept the students excited and interested in coming. Summer school lasts until July 1.
