Sunflower Diversified Services in Great Bend provides services for both children and adults with developmental disabilities. Garnering state and federal money to pull off the work they do is often times challenging.
Sunflower’s Executive Director Jim Johnson was discussing last month how the state needs to step up and provide more support for programs that help people with disabilities. To Johnson’s disappointment the state has its own issues.

Despite questions on funding, Sunflower continues to see their early education services grow. Last year, Sunflower helped 235 children birth to three years of age that accessed one or more of the services.
Johnson says funding many of the group’s services is an ongoing juggling act of federal, state, and local funds in addition to donations.
