The Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is a federal program that will provide $30 in checks for income-qualifying seniors age 60 and older to purchase locally grown fresh vegetables and herbs, fruits and honey at a local farmers market.
Any Barton County senior who is interested may apply at the Ellinwood Friendship Meal Site at the Heritage Center on Monday, June 13, starting at 12:30 p.m., at Claflin Community Room on Wednesday, June 15, after the program at 9 a.m., or at Barton County Health Department on Thursday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Great Bend’s Summer Street Stroll Farmers Market will participate in the Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program for 2016. Licensed farmers selling fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, greens, herbs, and honey are available from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Thursday evening.
This is a Chronic Disease Risk Reduction program of Barton County Health Department in partnership with Friendship Meals & ElderCare.
