At the April 18 Great Bend City Council meeting the proposed improvements to the Bandshell Area of Jack Kilby Square were discussed. Council members were requested to forward any comments or suggestions to staff so that they could be passed along to the architect. No comments or suggestions were passed along so the city is looking to move forward with the project.
The improvements to the bandshell and the addition of a splash pad would require the city to move the World War I cannon and buried time capsule, something City Administrator Howard Partington says the city is taking seriously.

Great Bend signed the architectural agreement with PBA Architects to design the improvements for the Bandshell Area in the amount of $63,697. Ideally, the city wants to have bids for the project going out by mid-September and the project complete by next spring or early summer.
The Thelma Fay Harms Charitable Trust donated $200,000 for the project that is estimated to cost $650,000. The plan would expand the stage and construct a water splash pad on the south side of the courthouse.
