family crisis centerThe Barton County 2013 Audit caused many headaches on many different levels. Delays stemming from issues in the Treasurer’s Office not only cost the county extra money, they also jeopardized a large grant the Family Crisis Center received.

The FCC applies for the Kansas Emergency Solutions Grant that supplies the organization with roughly 10 percent of its budget. The grant has to pass through a government entity which the Center used Barton County for prior to issues with the audit. The City of Great Bend stepped in last year to provide support for the grant.

Family Crisis Center Director Laura Patzner says the grant covers a lot for the organization.

The grant awarded the FCC $56,486 last year.

The Center provides advocacy and services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Barton, Barber, Comanche, Edwards, Kiowa, Ness, Pawnee, Pratt, Rush, and Stafford counties.

There is no financial contribution needed by the City as the council elected to sponsor and sign the FCC’s application requesting $95,393.
