It did not take long for law enforcement to determine a bomb threat last Friday was an empty threat with nothing found, but members of the Barton County Sheriff’s Office and Great Bend Police Department took the precautionary steps to defuse the situation.

Barton County Operations Director Phil Hathcock addressed the commissioners at Tuesday’s meeting about the quick response from law enforcement and the ability to get everyone evacuated from the two buildings with the threat.

Hathcock added the Sheriff’s Office has several suspects that potentially made the threat Friday morning around 9 a.m. and expects the case to be wrapped up soon.

Barton County Communications received a call notifying them of a bomb threat at the Courthouse and the county-owned building at 1806 12th Street that houses many county services. No suspicious items were found in either building.
