Larned High School football coach A.B. Stokes announced he submitted his resignation this week after six seasons guiding the Indians to a 27-32 record during that span. Stokes is hopeful to land a job as an assistant coach at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma, an NCAA Division II school near Oklahoma City.

Stokes took over a Larned team in 2012 following an 0-9 season the year before. Stokes led Larned to the playoffs three times in 2013, 2016, and 2017. The Indians went 3-6 in his first year and made the playoffs the following year going 7-3 in 2013.

Larned finished the season 6-5 in 2017 and made it to the second round of the Class 3A Playoffs before losing 36-28 to Marysville in the Regionals.

Stokes plans to finish out the year at Larned High School as the assistant wrestling coach and head track and field coach before moving to Oklahoma in May.

Stokes played for Andy Lambert at Sterling College during his collegiate career. Lambert is now in his second season as the head coach at Southern Nazarene. The Crimson Storm went 4-7 this past fall.
