The Oxford House started in 1975 to provide a concept and home those recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. The Oxford concept is a democratically run, self-supporting, and drug free home.

Barb Esfeld has helped out with the Central Kansas Dream Center in Great Bend that offers many ministries to help addicts or those fighting life-controlling issues. Esfeld says she watched several participants graduate from the Dream Center and be expected to be on their own and get their own house. The Oxford House is another stepping stone for addicts after their classes and has been in Great Bend since early 2016.
