There are a lot of fears for people when considering to adopt a dog that is categorized in the bully breeds. American pit bull terriers, boxers, Boston terriers, and bulldogs often get turned away for their reputation of aggression and violence.
Golden Belt Humane Society Director Heather Acheson says most of the fears are for not and many people will drive to Great Bend from as far as Colorado to rescue a bully breed dog.

Acheson acknowledged many pit bulls and terriers receive their poor reputation because of past neglect and abusive training.
Despite the poor stigma, Acheson says it is sometime wise to ship the bully breed dogs to different cities that have better luck with their adoption. The Golden Belt Human Society has seen success with sending bully breed dogs to Lawrence Humane Society.

As with any dog, owners should view how the bully breed interacts with strangers, children, and any other pets before making a decision to adopt the animal.
