A slight hiccup was discovered by Brentwood Builders LLC while preparing to repave 8,500 square feet of the parking lot at the Great Bend Events Center. As the construction crew removed the concrete, they found a low water area.
The City of Great Bend owns the facility and City Administrator Howard Partington says they are paying for the $279,000 worth of renovations and decided to submit a change order to add more repaving to address any drainage issues.

The change order was approved by the city council and will cost $42,171. The city council also approved to repaint the Events Center multiple shades of gray.
The canopy over the Events Center is getting upgraded to a 30’ x 60’ cover with LED lighting, but council members wanted to know about the possibilities of removing the canopy that connects the Events Center and the Great Bend Hotel to the east.

Partington says the city owns 25-30 feet of the canopy that connects with the hotel. Great Bend continues their efforts to distinguish themselves from the hotel. Renovations to the Events Center are expected to be finished by the end of the year.
