High school basketball is getting started up throughout Kansas, but people need to realize it is still debate season.
Great Bend High School has their regional tournament coming up in a couple of weeks followed by the state tournament in January.
Barbara Watson is originally from Oklahoma but has spent the past 29 years working at USD 428 as the Debate and Forensics instructor. Watson is preparing her students for the postseason that is just around the corner.

There are 10 students in Watson’s debate course this semester that work on cases and research during class time. There are 16 debate tournaments held throughout the semester but the students can only attend eight of them. As far as what characteristics make a good debater, Watson says reading is key.

The regional tournament for Great Bend High School debate is December 18–19. The state tournament takes place in mid-January.
