bass-fishingA year has passed, and Veterans Memorial Lake in Great Bend remains off the blue-green algae warning list. The lake was left unusable for years because of the algae problem from large amounts of phosphorus. Multiple episodes of pouring alum into the lake have occurred and the City was able to begin restocking the lake with fish in December 2015.

Great Bend Public Lands Director Scott Keeler says fighting the algae is still a work in progress but they are having success of fish thriving in the water once again.
